Slovakia’s Prime Minister Fico shot, admitted to hospital

Slovakia’s Prime Minister Fico is reported to have been shot. After this, he was immediately admitted to the hospital. Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico has been shot and injured, according to local media reports. Fico was reportedly shot in front of a cultural community center in the town of Handelova, where he was attending a government meeting. According to journalists present at the scene, several gunshots were heard.

The Slovak leader has been taken to hospital and his alleged attacker has been taken into custody by police. The incident took place in Handlova, about 180 km (112 mi) north-east of the capital Bratislava. A video shows several people running to catch the suspect just outside the cultural center in Handelova.

In her initial reaction to the shooting, Slovakia’s outgoing President Zuzana Caputova said she was shocked by the “brutal and brutal” attack on the prime minister and was wishing him a speedy recovery. Fico returned to power in Slovakia at the head of a populist-nationalist coalition following elections last September.
